The brief: Create a celebratory event during Computer Science Education Week applauding the hard work the kids put into coding projects that kids in Chicago completed with Code with Google and SocialWorks, with their visuals unknowingly being combined into the official video game for Chance the Rapper and DJ Khaled’s song “I Love You So Much”.
Our Insight: Getting more kids into coding starts with changing their perception of it. They think of computer science as something you do alone, that you have to be great at math to do it, or that it’s boring. We event will reinforce the positive experience that the students have had through the program, and will emphasize that the new skills they’ve learned also apply to other interests in their lives...plus it can be fun!
The solution: Along with creating an exciting celebration to honor the kids’ work, we will build on the message that coding and artistic passions can work in unison. The activations are meant to bridge the gap between science and art, and give the kids examples of how computer science can lead to creative outcomes, such as coding projects that reflect who they are.
We will built activations to inspire them to continue developing their coding skills for music, art or other passions alike. The space is designed for kids to have fun while exploring the powers of code within music, which they can continue to explore after the event.
